Holby City spoilers follow.

Holby City star Laila Rouass has confirmed that she is leaving the soap next week as Sahira Shah.

The actress, who played the role between 2011 and 2012 before returning earlier this year, revealed the news on today's (April 30) Loose Women.

Explaining her exit storyline surrounding father Reyhan Shah's (Raad Rawi) heart attack, she said: "My father's just had a cardiac arrest but they suspect that all is not what it seems, that his death is actually suspicious, and that's where it's left this week.

"Next week we find out if it was suspicious circumstances and if it is, who did it, and it's actually… can I tell you my news?" she asked, before confirming: "It's my last week on Holby next week."

Panellist Linda Robson then questioned: "Can we just ask – is it because you're going to prison for murdering him?’

Laughing, Laila replied: "I can't say! Trust you, Linda."

Of course, the exit news doesn't come as a huge surprise, as Sahira's return back in February was never set to be permanent.

The character was brought back in to be Jac Naylor's replacement as ward manager, following Rosie Marcel's own departure from the soap after 16 years.

Holby City continues on Tuesday (May 4) at 7.50pm on BBC One.
