Holby City spoilers follow.

Holby City's Sacha Levy came to a big decision about his relationship with new fiancée Jodie Rodgers in tonight's episode (January 5) after his teenage daughter Beka was admitted to the hospital with severe stomach pains.

Unbeknownst to Sacha (Bob Barrett) and Beka (Bob's real-life daughter Francesca Barrett), Jodie (Sian Reese-Williams) secretly poisoned Beka just before Christmas after slipping a drug into her drink.

After Jodie was seen drugging Beka's drink at Albie's, Beka experienced a sudden sharp abdominal pain and was admitted to Keller Ward as a precaution.

When Jodie went to report the incident to Sacha, who was conducting a surgery, he gave her short shrift and ordered her to leave.

Later, as her pain intensified, Beka shouted at Jodie and demanded that she leave, telling her that she is "no one" to her. Jodie was left rattled, while Beka was distraught not to have her dad by her side.

Beka was left further disappointed when Sacha finally arrived only to dismiss her pain, convinced that she had simply drunk too much alcohol.

With the pair's relationship at rock bottom, father and daughter finally took some time alone for a heart-to-heart.

Beka finally managed to get through to her dad when she shared some home truths, telling him that he has cut himself off because he can't face life without his late partner Essie Di Lucca and telling him: "You can't do this anymore. You're hurting yourself, you're hurting other people."

Sacha then opened up to his daughter at last, admitting that he felt she hadn't been there for him when he needed her and he finally spoke about his devastation over losing Essie.

"She bathed the whole world in light and all that's left is a terrible black hole," he said, breaking down and crying as Beka told him how much Essie loved him and how much she loves him.

"You need help – you need to grieve," she said. "Marrying someone this soon is just..."

Sacha suddenly began to question his actions, saying: "What have I done?"

After Beka assured her dad that she could help him deal with his grief, she told him that he needed to end things with Jodie – and he agreed.

However, Beka suddenly took a turn for the worse and was rushed into surgery, with Jodie going in to watch in Sacha's place after he was convinced that sitting in wouldn't have been a good idea for his mental state.

As Beka recovered from her surgery, Jodie finally won the respect of both Beka and Sacha's friends – none of whom are aware that Jodie was responsible for Beka's illness in the first place.

Now that Sacha seems to have accepted that he needs to properly grieve for Essie, it looks like his and Jodie's engagement will be very short-lived. But with Jodie's story set to continue into the spring, it seems that this isn't the end of the drama for Sacha and Beka.

Holby City continues next Tuesday (January 12) at 7.50pm on BBC One.
