Hollande 'Affair': Partner To Stay In Hospital

France's first lady is to remain in hospital for several more days following allegations that President Francois Hollande had an affair with an actress - but she is reportedly "ready to forgive" him.

Valerie Trierweiler will be treated for a further six to eight days after suffering a "very strong emotional shock", her chief of staff Patrice Biancone said.

She had initially been expected to leave hospital today after being in since Friday following allegations that her long-term partner had been seeing 41-year-old Julie Gayet.

Ms Trierweiler has made no comments about the allegations published by Closer magazine.

But today, Le Parisien reported that the journalist and mother-of-three had no intention of immediately ending her relationship with Mr Hollande - despite the furore.

A "close friend" was quoted by the newspaper as saying: "She seems prepared to forgive (him), she doesn't want to slam the door on a whim.

"But she wants to know very quickly what François Hollande's intentions are."

Le Figaro newspaper said the "friend" was Ms Trierweiler herself.

French journalist Frederic Gerschel said he spoke briefly to Ms Trierweiler on Sunday.

She only learned of the alleged affair on Thursday night when Mr Hollande broke the news to her in person, he said.

"The scene took place in the Elysee without blows or shouting," he wrote.

"In a few words, the president acknowledged the existence of (his affair).

"He denied nothing - neither his moped escapades with a bodyguard in the middle of the night, nor the frequency of his secret rendezvous or the date the secret 'love affair' started several months ago."

On Sunday, Ms Trierweiler's office said she was being treated for depression.

Asked about the future of her relationship with the president, Mr Biancone said: "She needs rest. Then she will decide what to do."
