The family and friends of a young woman who died at the age of just 20 have ensured her legacy lives on with another successful fundraiser.

Joanne Tennent, from Sproatley, lost her "funny and beautiful" daughter Hollie on August 22, 2022. Hollie had significant mental health problems and had been discharged from a crisis team just five days before she took her own life.

For the third year in a row, friends and family have completed a 12-Hour netball marathon in Hollie's memory at The Waudby Centre and raised money for Hull & East Yorkshire Mind and Dove House Hospice. So far, they have raised more than £8,000 which will be split equally between the charities.

Local businesses in Sproatley helped out by donating prizes for the raffle and tombola. The event on January 18 was organised by Leeds Rhinos coach Olivia Park.

Joanne said: "Olivia Park and Hull KR Netball have made this event a massive success; credit to Olivia she has done amazing again and it is all down to her really. She is one incredible person and we can't thank her enough.

"Olivia unfortunately wasn't present at the event on Saturday because she also works for Leeds Rhinos netball team and was in Cardiff but she absolutely raced home and made it for the last game. To actually let her know the success we'd had that day, it was wonderful really."

The netball marathon ran from 10am until 10pm and was kicked off with friends and family games between 10am to 11:30am. Joanne thanked Hollie's friends for continuing to come together and show support.

Further contributions to Hollie's fundraiser, with proceeds going to MIND and Dove House Hospice, can be made here. Last summer, a music festival called Holliefest was held in Sproatley which also raised money for the chosen charities.
