Holly Willoughby misses 'This Morning' due to illness

This Morning viewers were left somewhat confused today as Phillip Schofield presented the daytime programme without Holly Willoughby by his side.

Instead, Schofield opened the show beside Rochelle Humes, who once again stood in for Willoughby as the regular presenter took the day off due to illness.

Humes, of course, stepped in as co-host of This Morning while Willoughby was in Australia filming I’m A Celebrity a few months ago – and with the former The Saturdays member filling in again, viewers were left with a serious case of déjà vu.

“You might have noticed that I’ve got a different co-host for the day,” said Schofield as he opened the show.

Humes jokingly replied: “Have you only just noticed.

Explaining that Willoughby was feeling poorly today, Schofield said: “If you’ve been watching throughout the week you’ll know she’s been on a downward spiral.

“It started on Dancing On Ice where she wasn’t really brilliant on Sunday and it’s got worse and worse and worse, and finally she’s fallen over so she’s staying home today.”

This comes just a few days after Gino D’Acampo was also forced to drop out of the show due to illness, leaving Schofield and Willoughby to chaotically handle the cooking segment themselves.

Despite being ill, Gino called into the show to give the two presenters some guidance (well, shout at them).

“Stir the pasta! The pasta and the garlic and the chilli are burning!” he shouted over the phone, prompting Willoughby to question how sick he actually was.

“I’m not well,” he said. “I’ve got a stomach bug, and I didn’t want to give you the stomach bug. Where is the crab? Where is the crab?! I don’t see any chopped parsley, either!”
