Holly Willoughby squealed as a huge spider interrupted This Morning by scurrying across the set.

The star was hosting Thursday’s instalment of the ITV show (21 April) with Phillip Schofield and looked as if she was finding it hard to keep her composure after the spider whooshed under her table.

The pair paused before their next segment to discuss the invader.

Looking ruffled, Willoughby told viewers: “There is THE most enormous spider…”

The camera then zoomed in on it, and the presenter went on: “It doesn’t look so big on the telly, but it’s really big."

“Can someone put a glass over it and like, let it free outside somewhere?” she asked.

However, nobody stepped up straightaway and she pleaded: “Who is brave enough? No-one?”

Willoughby then shrieked as a crew member approached the spider with a piece of paper for it to climb on to so they could take it away.

The plan didn’t work out, and the spider side-stepped the paper and shot across the studio.

“That was always going to happen!" Schofield exclaimed, adding: “Get a glass!”

Luckily, someone took his advice and managed to slip a glass over the creepy crawly.

“Never a dull moment!” said Schofield as the pair breathed a sigh of relief.

Viewers were thoroughly amused by the hilarious moment.

One person suggested This Morning keep the spider as a mascot, saying: “They make great pets.”

“They’ll have that spider presenting the show with Toff next week,” joked another, referring to the show’s Georgia Toffolo.

“Let that spider on the show more often as it’s the most interesting thing to happen on this programme for a while,” quipped another viewer.

However, other viewers said the scenes made them a little uncomfortable.

One tweeted: "Can we stop showing the spider on #ThisMorning please, some of us can almost feel it on us at this point."
