Former This Morning host Holly Willoughby has made her return to the showbiz scene after months of keeping a low profile. The Dancing on Ice host has shocked fans after her appearance at the National Television Awards.

The mum-of-three stepped down as the face of ITV's This Morning after it was uncovered by police that Gavin Plumb plotted to kidnap and kill the star. He broke down in tears at Chelmsford Crown Court in July after he was convicted by a jury for his sinister blueprint to abduct, sexually assault, and kill the beloved presenter, reports the Mirror.

The presenter thanked a US undercover police officer who was instrumental in exposing the 37-year-old's heinous plot, expressing that women should not be made to feel unsafe going about our daily lives and in our own homes.

Her statement after the verdict was announced read: "As women, we should not be made to feel unsafe going about our daily lives and in our own homes. I will forever be grateful to the undercover police officer who understood the imminent threat and to the Metropolitan and Essex police forces for their swift response.

"Thank you to the Crown Prosecution Service, the Rt Hon Mr Justice Murray, Alison Morgan KC, the members of the jury and all involved in this case for ensuring that justice was done and that the defendant will not be able to harm any more women. I would also like to commend the bravery of his previous victims for speaking up at the time."

Holly's grand return to the showbiz scene at the NTAs on Wednesday evening marks her first major appearance since her exit from This Morning in October last year.

She and former TV partner Phillip Schofield - who also left the show - have been replaced by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, who took over as main hosts in February.

Despite her This Morning departure, Holly remained on TV, co-hosting Dancing On Ice with Stephen Mulhern earlier this year.

The awards ceremony will allow Holly to catch up with former colleagues, Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, who are scheduled to attend the glitzy event.

This Morning has been nominated in the Daytime category at the NTAs, up against fellow daytime shows, Loose Women, the Repair Shop, Deal or No Deal and the Chase.

Alison Hammond, a fan favourite and regular on This Morning, could also bag the coveted TV Presenter award, alongside other big names like Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly.

Other contenders for this award include Stacey Solomon, Claudia Winkleman and Bradley Walsh.

Holly's Dancing on Ice co-stars Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have also received nominations at this year's NTAs. They're up for the Expert category, competing against Anton Du Beke, Martin Lewis, Kaleb Cooper and David Attenborough.

Joel Dommett will be taking the reins as host of the NTAs for the fourth consecutive year, having first taken on the role in 2021. In addition, it's been revealed that Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks will be bringing us all the action from the red carpet live.
