Hollyoaks' Adam Woodward criticised for response to transphobic post

Hollyoaks star Adam Woodward has sparked criticism from fans after commenting on a transphobic post on social media.

Adam, who plays Brody Hudson on the Channel 4 soap, prompted backlash for responding to an offensive Instagram post originally shared by UFC fighter Darren Till.

The actor commented "absolutely dead" along with a skull emoji on the post mocking transgender women, suggesting that he was laughing at the 'meme'.

Adam appears to have deleted his comment, and has since apologised to the LGBTQ+ community for "engaging with an offensive post". In a statement, he told MailOnline that he would be "more careful" with how his words can be interpreted by others.

"I would like to apologise for engaging with an offensive post on social media. The interaction is not indicative of my beliefs or attitude as an ally of the LGBTQ+ community," he said.

"I believe in the right of every person to live life being true to themselves without criticism. I will in future be vastly more careful with how my words and emojis can be interpreted and the impact it can have on vulnerable communities that require support."
