Hollyoaks has aired an alarming health scare for Maxine Minniver.

Thursday's first-look episode (May 12) opened with Maxine up in arms when Warren turned down her offer to move in together because he wanted his "own space".

"Well, if you like me in your space, you really need to think about it because I'm not going to wait around for you, Warren," she demanded.

In the village, Maxine confided in Liberty that she was tired of "messing around" while Warren admitted to Felix and Joel he didn't want to cohabitate because he'd end up hurting Maxine in the long run.

"You shouldn't be with Maxine if you know you're going to hurt her. Let's just say, the women in our lives deserve more than we're giving them," Joel admitted in reference to his own split from Cleo McQueen.

Suddenly, Maxine was feeling weak during her big confrontation with Warren. Maxine wondered aloud whether Warren would break up with her, then collapsed into his arms.

Warren waited for news at the hospital as Misbah ran some tests, but the doctor explained to Max that there was nothing abnormal in her test results.

Misbah tried to talk Maxine through her ordeal with Warren to see if it was a trigger, then explained psychological problems can manifest into physical issues due to stress.

"Do you think I'm making this up?" Maxine asked, with Misbah admitting: "There is a history here."

Misbah was referring to Maxine's past with Munchausen, explaining that "mental illness isn't like a cold you can just get over". Max insisted she wasn't "faking illness" to win back Warren just as he arrived with a bouquet of flowers.

Warren was shocked by Maxine's comments as the episode closed.
