Hollyoaks' Anna Passey hints Sienna and Ethan's engagement won't be 'happily ever after'

Hollyoaks' Anna Passey has teased that Sienna Blake's future with Ethan Williams may not quite be the fairytale ending fans hope for. In Monday's (September 16) groundbreaking time hop episode, it was disclosed that Hollyoaks' iconic duo Sienna and Ethan had reconciled following the Channel 4 soap's leap forward by one year.

The episode revealed key details about the character's lives over the last 12 months, with the eagle-eyed audience spotting Sienna adorned with an impressive engagement ring. Later on, it was confirmed she and Ethan, portrayed by Matthew James Bailey, were indeed back on.

Originally pairing up nearly two years ago, Sienna and Ethan quickly captured viewers' hearts, turning into one of Hollyoaks' most discussed couples. But to the dismay of fans, they faced a tumultuous split in the previous year.

The writers have since taken Ethan and Sienna down separate paths despite calls for their reunion, leaving followers guessing about their relationship's future - yet now it seems the beloved pair have been given another chance, but the question remains: For how long?, reports the Mirror.

Discussing the new chapter for Sienna, Anna mused: "Sienna and Ethan have done such a good job at ruining it for themselves for the last year and a half that I don't think you could have left it without them saying the things they needed to say."

Regarding the show's innovative narrative jump, she added: "When we heard the news there was going to be the year time jump everyone thought for their characters 'what is going to look like? ' and for me I thought 'I'm either going to be in a pit of misery or she might just be happy'."

'I don't think anything lasts long for Sienna. I think what's really interesting is that people are so focused on the destination of the time jump they forget the journey and these characters have lived a year we just haven't seen it.

She added: "I think what's nice about the Sienna storyline is we'll get to learn snippets of what's gone on and that adds a new interesting element to it because you'll see that it's not as quite it seems on the surface which I think is most people's relationships."

"I didn't see the Ethan romance coming but it works so well. I think as a pairing it just works so well. Some things are audience led and when they are you know there's something there because so many people have picked up on it so it's a really nice thing and it's nice to give viewers a dose of something they want."

In Tuesday's episode (September 17), Sienna was spotted warning Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) to keep her distance from Ethan, suggesting that their relationship might be on shaky ground.

Anna hinted: "I wouldn't say the happiness is short-lived but it's very complicated and I think people will be quite divided. They will look at what's gone on and think 'I wouldn't be OK with that' but people will have their own opinion on what happened in the year."

Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am
