Yahoo News Hollyoaks' Jen Metcalfe gives baby son an unusual name
Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe has revealed the name of her newborn son.
The actress, best known for playing Mercedes McQueen on the Channel 4 soap, welcomed the arrival of her first child with former Geordie Shore star Greg Lake in June.
In a new interview with OK Magazine, Jennifer has now shared the news that her little boy is called Daye Colmic Lake.
The unusual name was two years in the planning, as Jennifer thought it up before she was even pregnant.
"I made it up on the way up to Newcastle about two years ago," she told the magazine.
"We weren't trying for a baby - we never spoke about kids until we really wanted him - but we knew it would happen one day. I just stored the name until then."
Daye's middle name is an amalgamation of Colin and Mick – the names of Jennifer and Greg's fathers.
Jen added: "My dad was called Colin and Greg's dad is Mick. Greg quite likes having the dads' names carry on and I'm not a fan of more than one middle name. I wanted something original."
The popular soap star has announced that she'll be taking a one-year break from Hollyoaks to spend as much time as possible with little Daye.
Show bosses have even temporarily taken Mercedes out of the Hollyoaks opening titles, which were given a refresh last week.
Speaking on Loose Women before the birth, Jennifer confirmed: "I've been on Hollyoaks for 11 years now, a brilliant 11 years, so I'm going to take a year's break."
