Hollyoaks boss Bryan Kirkwood has spoken out over Glenn Donovan's ongoing abuse of Grace Black.
Grace (Tamara Wall) has spent the last few months being manipulated by her partner Glenn, who is doing everything in his power to keep her as close as possible.
The unsettling plot has left viewers calling for the old Grace to return, but sadly it looks like this is just the beginning.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Bryan said: "Alongside Misbah and Imran's story we've got different characters who occupy a different space in Hollyoaks – Glenn and Grace are much more heightened."
"There have been comparisons between Patrick and Maxine but we feel that more than enough time has passed to explore the story again and with this one, it's very much in the realms of coercive control.
"We will never see Glenn raise a finger to Grace. Some of the audience have found it hard to understand why Grace – who is our toughest woman – would fall so easily under the thumb of a man like Glenn. That's what we found so compelling about the story."
Hollyoaks are also exploring the issue of family violence with the Maaliks, as teenager Imran has started abusing his mum Misbah both emotionally and physically.
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
