A familiar face will be making a return to Hollyoaks sometime soon as Gary Lucy, who starred as Luke Morgan on the show between 1999 and 2002, is set to make his return to Chester.

The Daily Star Sunday reported that Gary was on set filming again last week, adding that he's been given an 18-month contract to return to the show.

And now a Hollyoaks spokesperson has confirmed to Digital Spy that Gary is returning to the soap but wouldn't comment any further, so only time will tell just how long he'll be sticking around for.

Gary's original stint on the show saw his character Luke involved in some hard-hitting storylines, including a male rape storyline and his character's later struggle with depression, ultimately leading to a suicide attempt.

Luke later left Hollyoaks to become a school football coach in Canada, but returned briefly in 2002 for his parents' second wedding.

His work on the soap earned him the title of Best Newcomer at the 2000 British Soap Awards, and he followed up his Hollyoaks stint with roles on Footballer's Wives, The Bill and EastEnders.

Gary also took part in two series of Dancing on Ice: the first in 2010, where he finished as runner up, and again in the all star series in 2014, where he placed eleventh.

Most recently Gary has starred in the stage adaptation of the film The Full Monty, but now it looks like he'll be swapping the touring life for a prolonged stint back on the 'Oaks.

We already can't wait.

Hollyoaks airs on weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look episodes on E4 at 7pm.
