Brooke Hathaway made a crucial decision about her pregnancy in Hollyoaks following a chance meeting with Mercedes McQueen.
This week has since both expectant mothers questioning their pregnancies. For Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe), she continues to be torn between husband Sylver (David Tag) and her unborn child's father Liam (Jude Monk McGowan).
Brooke (Talia Grant) has been tricked into thinking her child's father Ollie Morgan (Aedan Duckworth) has broken up with her by bully Juliet Quinn (Niamh Blackshaw), even though Ollie actually has no idea she is pregnant.
In Wednesday's (September 11) first-look episode, Mercedes and Brooke both turned up for their termination appointments at the hospital at the same time.
Mercedes was extremely concerned for the teenager, especially after finding out that Brooke hadn't actually told Nancy (Jessica Fox) she was pregnant.
"I know Nancy. We're not good mates or anything, but the one thing I do know about her is that she loves her kids," Mercedes tearfully promised Brooke. "When you're a mum, there's nothing your kids can do to stop you loving them."
Brooke then explained that she'd decided to get the termination because she was worried she'd ruined boyfriend Ollie's life by getting pregnant.
"You can't get an abortion because you think it's what Ollie wants," Mercedes insisted. "What about what you want?... If you're in doubt, any doubt at all, you need to speak to a counsellor here. Not me! I'm an idiot. Everybody knows that.
"I'm not saying that you shouldn't do this, but I'm saying take some time to think about it. Explore your options. Because I know for a fact that Nancy would love to help you do that. You're her baby, Brooke, and she loves you no matter what."
In the end, Brooke agreed to put off her appointment and went off home with Mercedes to tell Nancy the truth.
"I'm pregnant," she admitted a stunned Nancy.
Viewers next saw Mercedes return to her own home on the verge of tears to give husband Sylver a hug, with the implication being that she'd gone through with her termination.
