Hollyoaks has confirmed the casting of Liz Fletcher as a new character on the soap.

The actress, who is also the wife of former Emmerdale star and Strictly Come Dancing winner Kelvin Fletcher, will take on the role of Alex, Digital Spy can confirm.

The character is Cindy Cunningham's bank manager, and is set to make her debut appearance on the Channel 4 soap in the coming weeks.

Speaking about joining the soap, Liz said: "It has been so great to join such an iconic show and work with the wonderful talented cast."

The star's previous acting credits include ITV's Cold Feet, where she played Rosemary, and BBC's In the Club as Liz Steele.

Liz and Kelvin married back in 2015, and share four children together – most recently welcoming twin sons last year.

Back in January, Kelvin spoke about the possibility of returning to Emmerdale as Andy Sugden following his exit in 2016.

Responding to an Instagram post from the soap teasing a storyline of Will Taylor accusing Sam Dingle of stealing his expensive watch, Kelvin wrote: "If he touches Sam like that again I’m coming back to sort it."

The actor spoke in 2021 about the struggle of getting roles, saying: "A friend of mine, an actress, just messaged me and said, 'I can't even get a f***ing self-tape.'

"Let me tell you, I've had about 10 nos in these last few months. So, keep the faith. Patience is key, as I always say. It's only a little gig, so don't be getting too bothered.

"For all those out there who, like me, are sick of hearing the nos, I'm sure I'm going to get a lot more nos after this one. But I'm enjoying this while it is."

Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
