Hollyoaks spoilers for Wednesday, March 25's first-look episode on E4 follow.

The cast of Hollyoaks are paying their respects to one of their beloved co-stars following a brutal death scene at the Devil's Dinner Party.

Wednesday's first-look episode (March 25) brought Liam Donovan's (Jude Monk McGowan) quest for revenge full circle when he trapped James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan), Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe), Grace Black (Tamara Wall) and Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) in The Dog.

Liam tried to turn Mercedes against the others by offering her the chance to kill Grace, after revealing it was his sister and James who'd shot her so many months ago.

Mercedes turned the gun on Liam instead, only to find out it was just a prop. But when Warren (Jamie Lomas) arrived in time for a fight — it was ultimately Grace who sent her own brother plunging to his death down the cellar stairs to end the Devil's Dinner Party.

While the residents of Hollyoaks are surely happy to be rid of Liam, Jude Monk McGowan's co-stars are unquestionably sad to see him leaving the soap two years after taking over the role from Maxim Baldry.

"I am gutted," on-screen sister Tamara Wall admitted. "Me and Jude have the nicest relationship. He is one of the nicest and most genuine [people] I know, and he's a brilliant actor, and a joy to work with.”

Whereas Liam's chemistry with Mercedes McQueen was always volatile, Jennifer Metcalfe has called Jude one of her "security blankets" on set.

"I miss him already," she said. "My god I have enjoyed working with him. Since coming back off maternity leave, nearly two years ago, him and David [Tag] have just been my little security blankets.

"They have always been there for me when I've not slept too much. They always get me a coffee, or just drag me, and keep me going! I'm going to miss him dearly!

"I've made a lovely friend there. He's such a cool guy, and he's so talented. When we do scenes together, I love what he brings out in me, and I've got a massive thank you to him for that."

Gregory Finnegan — whose character James shared an unexpected romance with Liam — added that he will miss his co-star "enormously".

"I've seen a lot of wonderful people leave during my time on the show, and he is most definitely one of the nicest, funniest and most talented — we'll all miss him greatly," he said.

Nikki Sanderson added: "He is a lovely guy, we have had a lot of laughs on set, and do you know what, I'm really sad to see him go. Working with people so closely for such a long amount of time, you really do get bonds with people, and friendships.

"It's really sad to see them go, but Jude is a super talented guy, and I am sure he will do many other beautiful things."

Hollyoaks airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm. Wednesdays through Fridays on E4 will feature classic episodes called Hollyoaks Favourites to compensate for the soap suspending filming in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
