Hollyoaks confirms John Paul's fate after crash confession

·2-min read

Hollyoaks spoilers follow from Friday's first-look episode (April 22).

Hollyoaks has revealed the consequences of John Paul McQueen's accidental crash confession.

The troubled schoolteacher had his big secret exposed this week, as Olivia Bradshaw ensured that he was caught on a microphone while he spoke to Prince McQueen about the recent mini-bus crash.

Viewers know that the dramatic accident was caused by John Paul suffering alcohol withdrawal symptoms while driving a group of students to a school trip.

John Paul then tried to conceal the truth by claiming that a bird flew towards the vehicle's windscreen, causing him to lose control.

In Friday's first-look episode, Prince encouraged John Paul to get back on track with their cover-up by making excuses for his outburst during Freya's fundraiser.

Prince suggested that John Paul's odd behaviour could be explained away if he pretended to have been feeling irrational guilt over the crash.

When John Paul later faced Freya and her police detective mum Lexi, however, he realised that it was time to be honest.

John Paul explained how his withdrawal symptoms caused the crash, meaning that he was responsible for Freya's life-changing injuries.

Shortly afterwards, John Paul returned home and broke down in front of his parent Sally St Claire.

John Paul admitted that he can't stop drinking and begged for Sally's help to overcome his demons.

Later, Lexi turned up at the McQueen house and confirmed that she wouldn't be arresting John Paul.

Although Lexi thought John Paul deserved to face justice, she chose to respect the wishes of Freya, who felt otherwise.

Bad news followed as Lexi insisted that John Paul shouldn't be allowed to teach again – and the struggling McQueen was stunned when Sally agreed.

Pointing out Lexi's obvious dedication to Freya, John Paul asked: "She's there for her child – why can't you be there for me?"

Sally replied: "I can't. I'm sorry, John Paul, but I'm going to have to fire you."

Could this news send John Paul on another downward spiral?
