Walter was last shown clinging to life when grandson Mitchell (Imran Adams) ignored his phone calls so he could finally sleep with Scott Drinkwell (Ross Adams).
Thursday's (October 10) opened up with confirmation that Walter was indeed still alive, but remained unconscious in the hospital after suffering a stroke. Martine (Kéllé Bryan) and Lisa (Rachel Adedeji) kept vigil at his bedside.
All the while, Mitchell and Scott were basking the afterglow of their night together. Just as Mitchell finally admitted that he'd never be able to stay away from Scott, he discovered he'd missed numerous messages from his family.
Mitchell raced over to the hospital to join his traumatised mum as Walter finally woke up. Any joy over that moment was short-lived because Martine and Lisa were blaming Maxine (Nikki Sanderson) stealing from the store as the cause of the stroke.
Over at Maxine's place, she'd kept her firing secret and managed to get some cash from Liberty (Jessamy Stoddart) by making up a lie that she'd left her bank card on the bus.
Martine and Lisa soon arrived to accuse Maxine of attempted murder, which tipped off Liberty that she'd been lied to as well. Maxine was left all alone, until her sister Mitzeee called with an offer to come to America.
Elsewhere, Mitchell was wallowing in the knowledge that he may have been able to help his grandfather if he'd not ignored his calls. When Cleo arrived, he once again promised to commit to her 100%.
In the final scenes of Thursday's episode, Scott turned up at Mitchell's flat dressed in drag as Anita, but Mitchell reacted angrily by snatching her wig and burning it in his sink!
