Tonight's (July 22) episode of Hollyoaks aired another twist in the investigation into the death of PC Saul Reeves.

The culprit was revealed in the previous episode to be Joseph Holmes (Olly Rhodes); however, DeMarcus Westwood (Tomi Ade) remains the prime suspect in the case after he was previously caught on camera carrying a knife.

Despite police suspecting DeMarcus, they haven't recovered the knife or Grace's engagement ring, which Saul was carrying at the time, meaning they cannot make an arrest. Without the evidence needed to arrest DeMarcus, Sid Sumner urged Lexi Calder to consider alternate motives, which she rejected.

"We'll all know who did this, and getting him is just a matter of time," she responded, warning Sid to stay out of the case.

Elsewhere, Grace is convinced of DeMarcus' guilt and threatens him in the street but is stopped by Felix and D.S. Zoe Anderson, who believe that DeMarcus is innocent.

Meanwhile, an excited Vicky shows off the ring Joseph gave her, unaware of who the ring actually belongs to.

Later, DeMarcus, Felix and Sid are near the crime scene when Joseph arrives and accuses DeMarcus of killing Saul. During the confrontation, Sid accidentally lets it slip that police haven't found the knife or the engagement ring.

DeMarcus is confused, but Joseph looks concerned about the revelation. "Why are you even bothering with that," he questioned.

"Because if we can find the ring, it might lead us to another suspect," Sid replied.

"We're going to keep looking and we're going to find out who really killed Saul."

Joseph then runs to find Vicky and questions if she has shown anyone the ring before revealing that it is part of the murder investigation. Vicky is shocked but reluctant to give the ring back, believing Joseph has changed his mind about the relationship.

Frustrated, he takes the ring and leaves an upset Vicky by The Love Boat. Later, he is seen breaking into Felix's garage and planting the ring and knife in DeMarcus' jacket.

Joseph then phones the police telling them he knows where the knife is, which DeMarcus then overhears on Zoe's radio.

In a panic, DeMarcus goes to the garage, where he witnesses Lexi removing the evidence before fleeing.
