Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks has aired a shocking arrest following Toby Faroe's murder confession — but it wasn't Toby who ended up in police custody.
Last we'd seen him, Toby had been manipulated by the abusive Dr Ley into confessing to Lisa Loveday's murder without knowing she was only gathering material for a new book.
In Monday's (February 8) first-look episode, Celeste (Andrea Ali) shared with Cleo (Nadine Mulkerrin) and Felix (Richard Blackwood) that Toby (Bobby Gordon) was in desperate need of their help.
Dr Ley (Sabina Cameron) had locked them both in The Loft so nobody could interrupt her plans to get more scandalous information for her sequel to The Red Door.
"I'll handle this," Felix pledged. "That woman is not locking me out. If the door needs to get kicked down, I'm kicking it down."
Celeste thought an alternate approach would be more effective — if she could dig up some dirt on Dr Ley, then maybe Toby would listen to his family.
Over at The Loft, Felix barged in just as Toby was confessing how he'd killed Lisa. Dr Ley immediately put her cards on the table by exposing Toby's confession, while Felix revealed she was just plotting another book.
"I thought you were trying to help me," Toby cried out.
Dr Ley warned that the only way for the story to end was for Toby to turn himself in, and for her to publish her book so his story could "help people".
"You don't need to go down like this. Not for her perfect ending," Felix insisted.
Toby then admitted: "Tell Celeste I'm sorry. I'm ready. I'm ready to turn myself in."
It was Celeste who arrived to deliver the final twist, turning up just in time with a bombshell about Dr Ley.
"Don't listen to Ley. She's not even a real doctor. She failed to get through medical school," Toby's sister revealed. "They threw her out for ethics violations… She's nothing but a con-artist!"
The police arrived on the scene to arrest Ley on suspicion of fraud and cruelty to a child, following a tip from Celeste. As she was being led away, Martine arrived to confront her.
"[Felix and I] are going to do what you never could," Martine vowed. "Toby and Celeste are our children, and we're going to give them a life."
As Martine and Celeste headed back to the flat, a shaken Toby knelt over the camera with the footage of his confession as he still contended that he is "not a good person".
"Maybe not, but you could be," Felix countered. "The way you are now? That was decided by some fake doctor, but the way you are from today?... I thought you being in prison was the only way to keep us safe. But I think you need a clean start. I got one. You deserve one too."
Felix handed Toby a brick, allowing him to smash the footage of his confession, giving him a truly clean start.
Hollyoaks airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
