Former Hollyoaks and The Fall star Bronagh Waugh has announced she is pregnant!

The actress, who played the hilarious Cheryl Brady in the Channel 4 soap from 2008 to 2013, announced the happy news that she is expecting her first child with partner Richard Peacock in an Instagram post on Monday (March 8).

"Happy International Women's Day!" Bronagh captioned her post. "Over Lockdown, I've been busy preparing for my next role (spoiler alert: it's pretty major - I'm going to be a Ma!)."

She added: "Women's bodies are incredible with what they can do and what they withstand. Absolute miracle machines and strong as an ox!

"So Happy International Women's Day to all of the incredible women out there doing their thing; surviving, thriving, coping and carrying on. You make the World go round & I salute each & every one of yiz!"

In a follow-up post, Bronagh highlighted that being pregnant has only affirmed to her "how important reproductive rights are" and that "we must continue to fight for them".

"We should all have the right to choose. We should all have the right to proper healthcare. We still have work to do," she added.

Bronagh has recently appeared in minor roles in Derry Girls, Midsomer Murders and Strike.

Hollyoaks airs weekdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing at 7pm on E4.
