Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

A cliffhanger with Liberty Savage in Hollyoaks has convinced some viewers that Nico Blake has made a shocking return to the soap.

Last week's episodes on E4 left off with Liberty (Jessamy Stoddart) coming to the startling realisation that she wanted to keep her newborn child, rather than let Sienna (Anna Passey) and Brody (Adam Woodward) adopt her.

In Monday's first-look episode (September 28), Damon (Jacob Roberts) was alarmed during a visit to the hospital when he found out about Liberty's sudden reversal.

"I've changed my mind. The adoption's off," she insisted. "It's not up for discussion. She's mine, and I'm keeping her."

Damon attempted to change her mind, reminding her that she'd made a promise to her sister and Brody to carry the child for them.

"I almost died giving birth to her. It just made me realise that she needs me, and I need her just as much," Lib told him. "I didn't know I would feel like this, but when I first saw her, it was like I'd known her my entire life."

"I care about you, and I want you to be happy. Keeping this baby could mean losing your sister," Damon pointed out. "She'll never speak to you again. Is that really worth it?"

"If I get to be [the baby's] mum, yes," Liberty shot back.

Damon dropped by Sienna's a short time later, to try to convince her not to visit Liberty as planned so the new mum would have more time to reconsider her decision.

However, he couldn't tell Sienna the real reason, so he covered up that Liberty just needed some alone time. His plan failed spectacularly, as Sienna set off to the hospital right away to "have a little talk" with her sister.

Though Liberty was intent on telling Sienna the truth, she softened when her sister spoke about how grateful she was to be a mum after losing so much time with the twins and Nico.

Liberty asked for a "moment alone", breaking down into tears about having to separate from the baby if she were to give up the child for adoption.

After thinking things through, Liberty called Sienna into her room to explain the baby "needs a mum" like her sister, who is "strong and fierce".

However, a shocking final scene showed Liberty speaking to an unknown young female voice in the nursery room to defend her decision.

"I know my own mind," Liberty insisted.

There's no confirmation yet who Liberty was speaking to... but viewers seem convinced it was Sienna's long-dead daughter Nico Blake! Perhaps as a hallucination?

Hollyoaks continues Mondays through Thursdays with first-look episodes on E4, airing at 7pm. Encore presentations air the following evening at 6.30pm on Channel 4.
