Grace Black has made a chilling threat over the death of her brother Jesse Donovan in Hollyoaks.

The fan-favourite character passed away mere hours after his wedding this week, when he collapsed in the village following a night of heavy drinking.

Though Mitchell Deveraux (Imran Adams) and EMS workers desperately tried to revive him, Jesse ultimately succumbed to what were initially unknown ailments.

Everything became clearer in Wednesday's (January 22) first-look episode when investigator DS Cohen's (Ariana Fraval) initial enquiry discovered that Jesse had died from alcohol poisoning.

However, DS Cohen vowed to continue her investigation into how Jesse had been able to consume so much alcohol — leaving Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) petrified becuause she overserved him.

Grace Black (Tamara Wall) was trying to keep Liam and Courtney from a slanging match over Jesse's demise, while also stopping James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) from cracking up.

James was already tortured that him and Grace had wrongfully shot Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) — now he had a death weighing on him too, since Jesse knew their secret.

"Living with a death on your conscience might be easy for you, but it's not for me," he admitted.

Grace then threatened: "You need to make it easy for you, otherwise you're going to end up in jail and Romeo and Juliet are going to end up with their junkie mum.

"That's if I don't get to you first… You need to go be with your family. Do something nice for them, and never, ever speak about Jesse again. He's dead — and if you're not careful, you're going to join him."

Clearly unnerved, James then ripped up the confession letter he was carrying with him. Back at the Donovan home, Liam settled on a culprit to blame for his brother's death.

"This family suffers loss after loss, but no more. Maxine is going to pay," Liam vowed.

He later placed a ripped photo of Max on a hidden dart board in the club, right alongside a picture of Mercedes.

Prior to his exit scenes airing, Jesse actor Luke Jerdy predicted that it was only a matter of time before the secrets took their toll on Grace.

"I think Grace is going to feel very, very guilty," he predicted. "It's going to be really tough for her. She's going to blame herself and maybe it'll mean she turns over a new leaf – I hope so!"

That's not looking likely...

Hollyoaks airs Mondays through Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm.
