Hollyoaks heartbreak for Peri and Juliet

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks has teased a split for Peri Lomax and Juliet Nightingale in heartbreaking scenes.

The fan-favourite couple hit the rocks in Wednesday's (May 12) first-look episode, as Juliet continued to receive mysterious text messages.

When Peri confronted Juliet over the text messages, Juliet angrily insisted she needed some "space". Peri only got more upset when she overheard Juliet telling Sid he was the only one who'd ever understand.

With Yazz feeding her suspicions, Peri immediately jumped to conclusions that Sid and Juliet were having. Her allegation only drove a further wedge between herself and Juliet.

In a heart-wrenching final scene, Peri admitted she may have jumped to conclusions by accusing Juliet of having an affair, but still felt betrayed that her girlfriend was shutting her out.

"I stood by you when you were in prison. I waited months so we could be together, be a proper couple," Peri tearfully told her. "But, it feels like I am still waiting!"

She then insisted: "It almost doesn't matter that you aren't having a physical affair with him. He's the one you rely on. Emotionally, I don't get a look in."

Juliet insisted she couldn't tell Peri who'd been texting her, so Peri angrily decided that they may well "need space from each other… permanently".

Is this the end for Peri and Juliet? Earlier this week, Ruby O'Donnell did share some soothing words over fears that the couple may already be at the end of the line.

"When it comes to Peri and Juliet, I can definitely see them being long-term," the actress told Inside Soap. "I love Niamh, she's one of my best mates. So it always feels very natural for us to do these scenes together, and we rehearse them all beforehand.

"With everyone that Peri's been with in the past, I've always known that it was going to end in disaster! Obviously I don't know what the writers have planned for this storyline in the future, but I love Peri and Juliet together!"

Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
