Though Breda McQueen's reign of terror in Hollyoaks is over, Tony Hutchinson is not out of the woods yet.

Tony (Nick Pickard) was finally freed from the pig farm after months in captivity during the Hollyoaks Later special on Monday (January 6) on E4, though not without suffering one last wound from the killer.

John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) arrived with emergency services to rush poor Tony to hospital, with the next chapter in his story set to play out in Tuesday's (January 7) first-look episode.

As Tony clings to life in the hospital, he is reunited with his devious father Edward Hutchinson (Joe McGann) — who is none too pleased by his son's return, given his own romance with Tony's wife Diane (Alex Fletcher).

Edward has just revealed to Diane that he is in love with her, and is willing to go to extreme lengths to keep her under his spell. Does that include pulling the plug on his own son?

First-look photos paint a very different picture to Joe McGann's recent comments that Edward's paternal side would emerge should Tony ever return to the village.

"I think that we would see the genuine love that Edward has for Tony, but Edward tends to be of the more disciplinarian type," he teased.

"He's come through the army, and he very much believes that 'man-up' is the way to do things, which is not necessarily what Tony needs.

"It could lead to a little bit of conflict, but I think his concern would genuinely kick in if he sees Tony hurt, not only because he's a doctor, but also because he's a father."

Edward certainly has an unusual way of showing that "genuine love"!

Hollyoaks airs Mondays through Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm. Hollyoaks Later also repeats on Tuesday on Channel 4 at 11pm.
