Hollyoaks' John Paul McQueen arrested in alcoholism setback

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

John Paul McQueen has been arrested following his latest alcoholism setback in Hollyoaks.

The troubled teacher has struggled to get his life back on track ever since the bus crash earlier this year, but most recently convinced his family he'd got sober again.

The McQueens thought they were being supportive by throwing John Paul a party to celebrate his sobriety in Wednesday's (July 13) first-look episode, but in reality, he was feeling deep shame.

John Paul admitted to his family he was "drinking again", then slipped out of the house as they tried to process the news.

This was happening at the same time as Pearl gave DeMarcus Westwood a job as a clerk at the Price Slice to help build up his confidence after Joseph Holmes' bullying.

DeMarcus became an unintentional bystander when John Paul snuck into the Price Slice wearing a hoodie to steal some alcohol.

The teen was panicked but confronted John Paul as he tried to dash with the alcohol, only then realising it was his former teacher.

John Paul struggled with DeMarcus, causing the glass bottles to fall to the floor and shatter. John Paul shoved DeMarcus off of him, inadvertently sending the teen crashing into broken glass.

Luckily, DeMarcus's dad Felix was on the scene before John Paul could get away. A post-credits scene showed that DeMarcus wasn't seriously harmed, but understandably shaken by the encounter.

Viewers could see in the reflection of Price Slice's widows that John Paul was being arrested for his attempted theft.

Sadly, DeMarcus will be drawn into more violence when PC Saul Reeves is stabbed while checking the teen's backpack for a knife. Viewers will have to stay tuned to see if DeMarcus is responsible for the stabbing.

Hollyoaks now streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
