Hollyoaks' Liam Donovan will try to bribe Joel Dexter in upcoming episodes after he uncovers damning evidence about Mercedes McQueen's role in Grace's hit-and-run.

Viewers will remember that shortly before Harry Thompson (Parry Glasspool) was killed by Breda McQueen, he happened to overhear Liam (Jude Monk McGowan) and Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) talking openly about their guilt in the hit-and-run, before later recording Mercedes threatening him over the information.

Next week will see Mercedes in a panic after Joel (Rory Douglas-Speed) finds Harry's phone recording and she quickly begs Liam for his help. While Liam does promise to help her, of course he wants something in return...

Later, Liam tries to break into the McQueen house while Joel and Goldie are sleeping to steal back the mobile phone, and he also tries to bribe Joel to get him to hand over the evidence too. Will his efforts work?

Speaking of the upcoming storyline, actor Jude Monk McGowan has teased that things don't exactly go to plan for Liam, saying his attempts to steal Harry's phone are "a bit ropey", adding: "Clearly larceny is not something that Liam is very talented at in terms of his illegal activities."

And when things go awry, it's not long before Liam considers a more violent course of action.

"Well predictably, he tries to buy Joel off," Jude explained. "He tries to use the fairest means possible to get Joel to keep the information to himself. When this inevitably fails, he has to use a bit more forceful and violent means in doing it.

"Liam uses people for what he needs at any particular time. I think he's certainly used Joel in their prior relationship to feel like he'd been forgiven for some of the bad things that he'd done previously," he continued.

"Now he needs to make these accusations off Joel go away so their relationship will change in that he's a problem that now Liam has to solve in a violent way."

Hollyoaks airs weekdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
