Former Hollyoaks star Malique Thompson-Dwyer has apologised for attending an illegal ‘quarantine rave’.

The 22-year-old actor - who competed in I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2018 - shared a video on his Instagram stories at the weekend which showed him breaking social distancing regulations to attend a mass gathering in a field in Greater Manchester.

Thompson-Dwyer, best known for playing Prince McQueen in Hollyoaks, originally responded to the backlash he faced by tweeting: “No offence but mind your business.”

The soap star then posted another video on his Instagram stories saying: “Yo, I've just come on here to give a quick message. First of all, I apologise to anyone I may have offended.

“But let me just get one thing straight - I've got family members that have actually passed away from this coronavirus. So yo, I am in this as well. So don't go on at me like I am not in this as well.”

Thompson-Dwyer, from Oldham, went on: “But it's funny how everyone is never saying anyone positive about me. It's always bad boy Malique this...

“They never want to say anything positive and it's funny because at least I am not out there p***ing on war memorials. Racist c***s.”

In the original video he shared at the weekend the actor – who has also starred in CBBC drama The Dumping Ground – can be seen walking along a woodland path, saying: “There's a rave going on innit, can you hear the music?”

Thompson-Dwyer, who starred in Hollyoaks from 2016 to 2019, then shared footage of the crowds.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic government guidelines during lockdown currently limit public gatherings to no more than six people.

About 4,000 people gathered in Oldham before spilling into Daisy Nook Country Park, according to Greater Manchester Police. It was the largest of several ‘quarantine rave’ events that took place in the north of England over the weekend.

A 20-year-old man who attended the Oldham rave died following a “suspected drug overdose”.

Yahoo UK has contacted a representative for Thompson-Dwyer for comment.
