Mercedes McQueen has learned that her husband Sylver's life hangs in the balance in Hollyoaks.

Sylver became an accidental victim this week when he drank poisoned punch that his daughter Cher had intended as punishment for Mercedes for cheating with Romeo.

Thursday's (August 26) first-look E4 episode opened up with Goldie McQueen returning from holiday to find Sylver collapsed on the floor at The Dog.

Mercedes was on the scene in a hurry, but both were shocked as Sylver started coming round when Cher rushed in to confess what she'd done the night before.

"I knew I put too much in, but I'm sorry. I think I've poisoned you," Cher begged.

The teen also confessed to all the schemes she'd used against Mercedes, putting Sylver under even more stress while he was trying to recover.

"We can't fix this. This family, it's done," Sylver insisted.

Sylver stumbled outside of The Dog, where Mercedes once again tried to apologise for her one-night stand. However, she soon realised that Sylver had passed out!

After being rushed to the hospital, Mercedes was ultimately left to break the news to Nana McQueen that something had gone very wrong.

"Sylver's had a cardiac arrest. They think it's a reaction to the stuff he drank," a stunned Mercedes explained. "He's in a coma. They don't know if he's gonna wake up."

"He's okay, he's got to be okay," Nana worried.

Will Sylver survive? Meanwhile, Cher was left in tears without even knowing about Sylver's heart attack because she had nowhere to live after being kicked out her dad and splitting up with Romeo.

Hollyoaks airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4. Selected omnibus episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video.
