Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks has released a new Channel 4 trailer teasing the life-changing drama due to hit the village in September.

The soap has some high-stakes storylines planned for next month, marking the transition to three episodes per week and a smaller cast of characters.

Mercedes McQueen, Tony Hutchinson, Ste Hay and Vicky Grant are among the characters who take centre stage in the new promo.

There's an eerie sense of foreboding as familiar faces from the show are seen looking anxious, worried and upset – whether they're standing in the rain, pouring a drink of water or sitting in a car.

Mercedes's relationship with Warren Fox looks set to come to a head next month, as Hollyoaks builds up to the bad boy's dramatic exit.

Warren remains in danger as ruthless gangster Blue – aka Dave Williams – is currently seeking a brutal revenge against him.

In one moment of the trailer, Mercedes admits: "I don't want this to end." Later, she adds: "Will life ever be the same?"

Meanwhile, Ste is currently estranged from his husband James Nightingale after being caught out for cheating on him with village newcomer Rex Gallagher.

The promo features a voice-over from Ste, who optimistically says: "We've got our whole lives ahead of us." However, Ste then seems in a traumatised state as he looks tearful and splashes his face with water.

Elsewhere, Vicky Grant could be in for a dramatic time thanks to her father Donny's attempts to solve the village's Blue mystery once and for all.

Her voice-over in the trailer asks: "Is there something you're not telling me?" Could she find herself caught in the crossfire of the unfolding situation?

Hollyoaks shifts to a three-episode format on Monday, September 9, which is the show's annual stunt week.

The week afterwards then features the highly-anticipated time jump, as the show moves forward by 12 months.

Executive producer Hannah Cheers recently told Digital Spy: "We had to think about whether the stunt would come first or the flashforward. We tried every which way of working through.

"The stunt element is now the first week of three episodes, starting from September 9. The stunt week plays out across those three continuous episodes.

"Then we come back the next week – from Monday, September 16 – and it's a year later."

A separate extended promo, featuring footage from the episodes, will be released by Hollyoaks on Tuesday (August 27) at 4pm.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
