Hollyoaks star Gregory Finnegan reckons the show will revisit James Nightingale's dark abuse plot towards the end of the year.

James's harrowing childhood past was exposed last year after he suffered a brutal attack at the hands of his dad Mac – which he later revealed wasn't the first.

Since then, James has teamed up with his mum Marnie to avenge Mac, and with all the drama going on with the Nightingales, fans have been left wondering if the abuse plot will ever be properly explored.

"There's a massive parting of the ways since Mac discovered James and Marnie were doing ghastly things to him," Gregory told the Radio Times. "The family are in utter disarray at this point.

"James and Mac have no communication at the moment but I suspect down the line we'll explore their troubled past and the abuse again, perhaps towards the end of the year."

Gregory has also revealed that James's role in Amy Barnes's murder will become clearer as the plot continues to take hold over the summer.

"James is on the sabotage trail and we'll start finding out some of his reasons for that," he said.

"Over the summer with the trial coming up and his involvement with that, we'll see more of the underside of James's motivation in all this, and what his involvement is with Amy's murder. He's right in there."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
