Hollyoaks spoilers follow from Thursday's E4 first look episode (December 17).
Hollyoaks has finally resolved the mystery of Silas Blissett's insider knowledge on the McQueen family – his grandson Seth Costello has been giving him tips for weeks.
Seth, who was a show regular in 2010 and 2011, has made a shock return to the Channel 4 soap after a nine-year absence and is once again played by Miles Higson.
If you're a newer viewer needing the inside scoop on Seth, or an older fan who just needs a quick refresher, look no further for all the details you need.
Who is Seth Costello in Hollyoaks?
Seth Costello was introduced to Hollyoaks in autumn 2010. He was among a host of new additions who were brought in as part of producer Paul Marquess's revamp of the show that year.
The Costello family moved to the village to take over local pub The Dog in the Pond. Seth was joined by his mum Heidi, dad Carl, older brother Riley and twin Jason Costello.
Seth's half-sister Jem Costello was already part of the cast and had been introduced in March that year. However, Jem's crossover with the rest of the family was brief as she left the show in November 2010.
Although mild-mannered Seth was definitely the quiet man of the family, that didn't mean missing out on his fair share of Hollyoaks drama.
Seth and his brother Riley were central to the 2010 series of Hollyoaks Later, which saw dangerous brothers Liam and Nathan McAllister take revenge against the Costello family. They were out for payback over an injury, committed by Carl Costello, which had ended Liam's football career.
Seth also had a bad time of it in the 2011 series of Hollyoaks Later, as scheming Warren Fox tricked him into thinking that he'd murdered a sex worker while high on drugs at Riley's stag party.
In the main 6.30pm show, one of Seth's other big storylines saw him start taking illegal steroids – supplied by bad boy Gaz Bennett – after becoming insecure about his body image.
Seth was also central to the memorable 'WAG wedding' episodes of Hollyoaks in autumn 2011, as Riley was due to marry Mercedes. Seth was aware that Mercedes had been sleeping with Carl behind Riley's back, so considered spilling the beans in the build-up to the ceremony.
What is Seth's history with Silas Blissett?
Seth had a close relationship with his grandfather Silas Blissett for most of his first stint in the show. Silas was introduced at Christmas 2010, when he came to stay with the Costello family after secretly murdering India Longford.
Throughout 2011, suspicions rose that Silas was the secret serial killer in the village after more girls were murdered. However, despite repeated accusations from super sleuth Lynsey Nolan, the Costello family – including Seth – stayed loyal to Silas.
Everything changed at Halloween 2011 when Silas's games finally backfired on him. While targeting Lynsey, Silas slipped up by accidentally murdering his own daughter Heidi, who was wearing an identical Catwoman costume.
The Costellos were devastated as the horrible truth about Silas was exposed in the aftermath. After Silas's keepsakes from each victim were found upstairs at The Dog, he was finally arrested.
Subsequent episodes saw Seth leave the village for a fresh start after such a difficult time. Things went pretty crazy in the years that followed – Silas escaped from prison, Riley was killed by a stray bullet – so you could argue that Seth was better off out of it.
Why is Seth back in Hollyoaks?
As revealed in Thursday night's big cliffhanger (December 17), Seth has returned to the village as part of the McQueen family's ongoing blackmail saga. He's still played by Miles Higson, who has made appearances in Channel 4's Cucumber and rival soap Coronation Street since his original stint in Hollyoaks.
Seth is now working with Silas to extort money from the McQueen family and is perfectly placed to do so, as he's now dating Theresa.
Although Theresa is aware that she and Seth are conning the McQueens out of their cash, she has no idea that her new fella is in cahoots with his murderous grandfather. Oh dear.
Miles Higson, who plays Seth, recently told Digital Spy: "Seth is the key link between Silas and the McQueens. Without him, Silas's plan wouldn't really work. As to whether he is a mastermind behind the plan or just a pawn, I guess you'll have to wait and see."
He added: "I don't think there's any way that you could go through what Seth has experienced in life and not have a little bit of darkness in you. He's a bit of a damaged soul – the majority of his family have been murdered and the other half don't speak to him.
"Silas is all he has left, and they say you become the average of the five people you spend most time with…"
Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4. Classic episodes, titled Hollyoaks Favourites, air on Fridays at 7pm on E4.
