Hollyoaks shares first look at Danny Mac on set ahead of Dodger return

Hollyoaks has unveiled its first look at Danny Mac’s return as Mark ‘Dodger’ Savage, with the actor sharing that he is “excited” to come back.

It was announced on Monday (October 28) that Mac would reprise his role on the Channel 4 soap after a decade away, with the character set to return to the village in the new year.

Following the announcement, Mac has filmed an interview with the official media channels for the soap, explaining Dodger’s turbulent history and his own reasons for returning.

“A little bit about Dodger. He’s not complex, actually - he’s quite simple. It seems that everything around him is complex," the actor began in the video, which was posted on Instagram.

“He’s quite straight up. He’s got good morals, usually. Whenever I’ve described Dodger to anybody that has asked, I always said: ‘He’s the really good guy that all the bad stuff happens to.

“It’s always been a role that is extremely exciting to play, and I’m really excited to come back. To kind of build on that, we’ve got ten years of history to uncover. Who is he now? Where has he been? And why is he back? That excites me a lot.”

Mac, who has also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, spoke of his return to Hollyoaks in a separate interview, explaining: “After a decade away, I'm thrilled to be returning and reuniting with my incredible co-stars, old friends and a character very close to my heart.

“Dodger escaped, leaving a great deal behind. I've always wondered whether he could return and who he might have become in the 10 years since he ran away. Now that he's back, there's a lot to uncover, but one way or another, we will finally find out.”

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
