Yahoo News Hollyoaks star Alex Fletcher says "unstable" Diane could have shot Mercedes McQueen
Hollyoaks star Alex Fletcher has told Digital Spy that fans shouldn't rule out Diane Hutchinson in the 'Who Shot Mercedes McQueen?' mystery.
Ever since the whodunit storyline was announced a few weeks ago, Diane has been viewed as an unlikely possibility compared to more dangerous characters on the suspect list.
However, in a new chat with Digital Spy, Alex hinted that Diane's terrible year could have pushed her over the edge – especially as she wrongly believes that her stepson Harry Thompson was murdered by Mercedes.
Alex told us: "Diane is a little bit unstable at the minute. I can't give too much away but I think she has got it in her to shoot someone, unfortunately! I think she has been through so much recently, so why wouldn't it be her?

"Diane has been gunning for Mercedes since Harry's funeral. Mercedes has told so many lies ever since she ran over Grace. Diane now thinks that Mercedes killed Harry. Tony is not around and Diane has been left to pick up all the pieces at the funeral.
"You'll also see that someone in the village has something on Diane over what happened that night, so it's a question of how she'll get out of that one."
Praising the intriguing new story, Alex continued: "It's been such a good thing to shoot. I was really pleased to be part of this storyline. I'd had such an amazing year already, with Lily's self-harm storyline and Steph Davis coming back.
"I thought that maybe I'd go quiet for a while, because I'd had a year of great stuff, but then they told me that I'd be a suspect for shooting Mercedes.

"It was out of the blue a little bit! But it's been massive and the reaction over the last week has been off the scale. My Aunty Kathleen even rang me saying: 'Just tell me who shot Mercedes!' I said: 'I can't tell you, you'll go round telling everyone!'
"I've enjoyed filming the episodes. We've had a few special scenes and flashbacks, when we were filming the various possibilities of who it could be. That was fun because I've never done anything like that before.
"It's nice to work with other people as well. I don't usually get to work with Jen Metcalfe much. It's been good and we've had fun doing it."
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4.
