Hollyoaks is getting ready to air upsetting scenes for Sally St Claire: after getting beaten up in prison and ending up in hospital, she makes plans to escape and run away.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Annie explained that there will be plenty of drama in store for her character in the upcoming episodes.

"There's lots of twists and turns to come – it's a big week, and a lot to take in," said the actress.

Sally is currently in jail for her involvement in covering up George's murder. While she's accepted that she had to go to prison, Sally wasn't expecting to receive hate and abuse from her transphobic inmates.

While on the phone with her son, Sally tries to keep her struggles quiet as she doesn't want John Paul to worry. Bur when the phone call ends suddenly, John Paul realises that his parent is in trouble.

Annie explained: "Sally tries to keep all this abuse quiet as she doesn’t want John Paul to worry. However, then she gets attacked while she’s on the phone to him, and more happens off screen.

"The next time you see Sally, she’s in hospital and it’s quite serious. There’s no doubt that there was an attempt on her life."

While in hospital, Sally knows that if she returns to prison the inmates will end up killing her, so she makes the decision to escape – and quickly.

Annie also admitted that Sally doesn't have a plan and that she hasn't even been to trial yet. But in Sally's mind, it's the only option she sees. Realising that she can't do it on her own, Sally reveals her exit plans to the whole family, including John Paul.

"The McQueens are ready to break her out. John Paul isn’t on her side at first, but I love the way the McQueens all rally around her, especially Goldie. And eventually John Paul is persuaded to help too," Annie added.

Will the McQueens be able to help Sally or will she end up in prison once more?

Hollyoaks airs these scenes on Tuesday, July 6, Wednesday, July 7 and Thursday, July 8 at 6.30pm on Channel 4.
