Hollyoaks star defends Grace Black over Mercedes McQueen shooting

From Digital Spy

Hollyoaks star Tamara Wall has defended her character Grace Black for shooting Mercedes McQueen in last year's mystery whodunit storyline – and has even suggested Mercy deserved it.

As the Channel 4 soap gears up to air Liam Donovan's Devil's Dinner Party next week, where Liam will tell Mercedes the truth about who shot her at long last, Tamara has admitted that she's not worried about Grace's fate because the reveal will allow the long-time rivals to "call it quits".

"Mercedes deserved it! At the end of the day, Mercedes ran her over, and there has been this constant back and forth between the pair," she said ahead of next week's scenes.

"And also, let's not forget, three years ago, Mercedes shot Grace – to the point of she can never have kids! So all in all, they can now call it quits," she added, suggesting Mercedes might be in an uncharacteristically forgiving mood.

Teasing a light-hearted edge to the upcoming drama at the Devil's Dinner Party, Tamara also promised fans that the outcome is a "brilliant" one, adding that the cast had great fun filming Liam's devious exposé.

"It's got a brilliant ending," she teased. "Which is possibly one of the funniest things I have filmed actually, so definitely, [it has a fitting ending]."

Tamara's comments come after Hollyoaks actor Jude Monk McGowan called his character's vengeful plan "delicious".

"I love the use of all of the devil iconography, and the quite over-the-top set dressing," he said.

"He's very aware of the theatricality of it, of the gesture, but it's all about striking fear into the people he wants to revenge over."

Hollyoaks airs Mondays through Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm.
