Yahoo News Hollyoaks star Gary Lucy reveals plans for return to the soap
Hollyoaks fans who are excited for the return of Luke Morgan won't have much longer to wait.
Cast member Gary Lucy has been away from the Channel 4 soap over the last several months while touring on stage in The Full Monty, with his character Luke having been imprisoned.
With touring now winding down, Lucy confirmed on This Morning on Friday (May 24) that he's gearing up for a full-time return to Hollyoaks in the weeks ahead.
"I'll start back at the end of June," he revealed. "I need a holiday first. I've just finished touring. I'm so jet-lagged."
While he's been absent as a constant presence, Luke has popped up for guest appearances as part of Mandy's pregnancy complications storyline and testified during the trial of his son Ollie's abuser Buster.
During his appearance on This Morning, Gary mentioned that he'd been involved in the creative aspect of the grooming storyline and had been "really impressed" with how it had turned out.
"A lot of the people that wrote to us said thank you and said through watching our storyline, that gave them the courage to [speak out] and that's happened all over the place," he said.
As the actor gears up to return to screens as Luke, producer Bryan Kirkwood has already promised he has a big surprise in store for viewers.
"He has got another, hopefully, dare I say, all-time classic story on the way, with a really interesting/surprising new relationship," the producer said.
"And you know, the character will have learnt some lessons in prison and we're keen to take him forward this time, rather than looking back."
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
