Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks star Harvey Virdi has revealed that her character Misbah Maalik will be getting more involved in the show's ongoing drugs storyline.
The Channel 4 soap is currently exploring the topical issue of County Lines drug dealing. County Lines refers to drugs gangs from big cities, who exploit children and vulnerable adults to expand their operations into smaller towns and villages.
Tonight's E4 first look episode (September 17) sees Misbah return to the village after spending months away on a secondment in Surrey.
Misbah finds that her house is a mess, after a party thrown by her son Imran (Ijaz Rana) got out of hand. However, for the time being, she doesn't know that some of the guests were taking the opportunity to sell drugs.
Speaking to Inside Soap about the hard-hitting plot, Harvey explained: "Misbah's going to be making some new friends, and will be pulled into what's happening with the young people.
"Misbah's part of the community, everybody's worried about what's happening, and it becomes more obvious to everyone that their children are part of it – she's going to be involved in that as she's a doctor.
"Misbah's going to have to deal with those consequences."
On a brighter note, tonight's episode also implies that Misbah may have found love during her time away, as she seems coy about her phone conversations with a mystery person.
Harvey added: "The call initially comes through when Misbah is with Imran, and she covers up, saying it's a work mate. Misbah is slightly secretive, so Leela – who is within earshot – thinks there may be more to it.
"I don't think Misbah is embarrassed, but she's not quite ready to share yet."
Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes on Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4. Classic episodes, titled Hollyoaks Favourites, air on Fridays at 7pm on E4.
