Yahoo News Hollyoaks star opens up about Amy's explosive death
Hollyoaks star Ashley Slanina-Davies has spoken out about Amy Barnes' explosive exit which will see her be killed off in a devastating storyline twist.
The tragic demise of Amy was teased in a recent Hollyoaks trailer, and her on-screen partner Duncan James recently confirmed that the cast have been filming the heartbreaking scenes which will see her leave our screens for good.
Speaking to Digital Spy on the red carpet at the National Television Awards, Ashley said: "It's terrifying, it's exciting. It's a little bit different."
"I was part of the original conversation and I was like, 'Is there anyway I can leave and the character not be dead?' But then that's the whole story, and it's a really good story.
"And it's a really good opportunity for the other characters and the people that play my kids. It was too good to turn down. It also takes the pressure off when you know that you're leaving."
Duncan recently confirmed during his own chat with us that he had been busy filming some highly emotional scenes as the storyline takes hold.
"The material that I've been filming recently with Amy's death has been really emotional and intense, but I'm really enjoying it," he said. "I did a scene the other day and I was really proud, as it was all of my own natural emotion coming out.
"I was sobbing like a baby – and that was great, because all the tears were real. I didn't think I'd be able to do something like that, because it takes a lot of skill. So I was quite proud of myself for that moment."
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4.
