Hollyoaks star Richard Blackwood says 25th anniversary episodes will "exceed everything" on TV

From Digital Spy

Hollyoaks newcomer Richard Blackwood has teased that the soap has some very big things planned for its 25th anniversary episodes.

The Channel 4 soap is set to celebrate 25 years on-air in October 2020 and although Blackwood may be new to the soap, with his character Felix Westwood making his on-screen debut last month, it seems talk of the big plans that the bosses have got cooking up have already reached the actor's ears.

"The 25th anniversary, from the rumours floating around our building, is set to exceed everything that has been done on TV," Blackwood told The Mirror recently.

"Hollyoaks are going for the top floor with this one," he added.

Hollyoaks is already known for its huge October stunt sequences – to the point where even village resident Grace Black (Tamara Wall) noted that "something always seems to be kicking off here in October" in last year's episodes – so the 25th anniversary plans must be *really* spectacular.

The soap is currently taking a break from filming in response to the ongoing global situation, with Hollyoaks reducing the number of episodes that are airing weekly to ensure that it can stay on-air for longer throughout the lockdown.

There's no news yet on whether the schedule changes will have any impact on future storylines, but there's no doubt that the soap's cast and crew will be hoping that it's safe to return to filming in enough time to get the episodes ready to air in October.

Meanwhile, although the cast members themselves are being kept in the dark about the anniversary plans, Hollyoaks boss Bryan Kirkwood has previously teased some details about what fans can expect from the milestone episodes.

"We have got a really confident framework for the 25th year, which we're very excited about," Kirkwood told Digital Spy last year.

"I'm really confident in saying that we have a very original, ambitious story coming up for the teens and the families. Hopefully that will engage all of our viewers. We're already talking about our stunt for the 25th anniversary week, which has got us excited too."

Hollyoaks airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm. Wednesdays through Fridays on E4 will feature classic episodes called Hollyoaks Favourites.
