Note: The following article contains discussion of sexual misconduct that some readers may find upsetting.

Hollyoaks star Rishi Nair has revealed why Sami Maalik will change his mind over Yazz's controversial friendship with Finn O'Connor.

The three characters featured in heated scenes this week, as Sami angrily warned Finn (Keith Rice) to stay away from Yazz.

With Finn now back in the village after serving his jail sentence for raping John Paul McQueen and attempting to rape Nancy Osborne, viewers have seen Yazz (Haiesha Mistry) decide to give him a chance.

Although Sami feared that Finn could be a threat to his sister, tonight's hour-long episode on E4 (November 15) sees him back down by inviting Finn to his wedding.

Speaking about Yazz and Finn's friendship, Rishi explained: "From the start Sami was very against it, because obviously Finn is a convicted rapist, and Sami's very protective over his family.

"So having his younger sister hanging about with a convicted rapist is not something that he was happy with at all. We saw Sami trying to stop that friendship, but I think there’s a speech when Yasmine is talking to Sami's mum Sheeba and she kind of explains that he's the only one that's seen through her deafness.

"When Sami sees how much it means to Yazz, I think that's what causes the change of heart. He's happy for them to be friends because he sees how much it means to Yazz."

Despite the wedding invitation, it's unclear whether the ceremony will take place at all as Sinead has been nowhere to be seen for days and is having cold feet about the nuptials. Sami is also kidnapped on the big day.

Rishi continued: "What we learned during the week is that Sami was trying to keep it quiet and then Azim kind of got it out of him that they had an argument on holiday.

"I think she was feeling a bit like they'd rushed in to getting married. She's having second thoughts, especially with Finn returning, and of course her ordeal with Laurie only just finishing. It has been quite a lot for her.

"I think that's the reason she's getting cold feet, and I don't think it's got anything to do with Sami particularly. I think it's more she doesn't feel like she's in the right place to get married."

The hour-long special is also the first time viewers have met Sami's mother Sheeba Desai, played by Rekha John-Cheriyan.

On Sami and Sheeba's dynamic, Rishi said: "I think they have a good relationship. If we were talking generally, I think he probably would struggle with his mum slightly because she likes things her way and wants to put authority down, and I think Sami rebels to that.

"In this instance, he is quite happy that she's come. He's a bit lost at the moment and I think just having the support of his mum there means a lot to him."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
