Hollyoaks star shares message for fans after deadly explosion

Hollyoaks spoilers for next week's episodes follow.

Hollyoaks star Gregory Finnegan has thanked fans for their support following his exit from the soap.

His character James Nightingale was seemingly blown up in the final scene of Wednesday's (September 12) episode, as the final victim of Blue's revenge plot against the village.

The dramatic cliffhanger involved James and Ste inadvertently getting into a car strapped with a bomb before they could be warned they were in danger.

Speaking on Instagram following the streaming release of this dramatic episode, Gregory appeared appreciative of the fans who'd reached out to him.

"If you watched last night's episode, you will have seen — spoiler alert — James get blown up," Gregory told his followers.

"Many of you got in touch with me last night and this morning to express your feelings on that. Thank you very much for all of those. They do mean a lot, so keep them coming in. It really does help on what is quite a difficult day."

Gregory encouraged fans to buy his new tell-all book The World According to Grog where he writes about his departure from Hollyoaks in unfiltered detail.

The actor has confirmed he has now exited Hollyoaks ahead of the show's time jump as it moves into a thrice-weekly schedule from Monday.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Gregory said of his departure: "'Really sad' is the overriding emotion. In the book, I talk about it being like a grief process, although I've gotten over it now. It was a shock to begin with. Then I was upset, angry and sad.

"But now I feel that I gave so much to the show – and James did as well. Now I feel proud of the journey I went on and the work that I did. It's going to be sad to leave James in the past, but I didn't have any choice!"

The actor will have much more to say in an exclusive interview with us, releasing next Monday (September 16).

James wasn't the only character who exited in Wednesday's stunt episode. Warren Fox fled the village after being stabbed by Blue (aka Dave Williams) before Blue himself was shot to death by Robbie Roscoe. Suzanne Ashworth was killed during the motorbike crash as well.

Next week's episodes will reveal if any other characters were killed in the aftermath of the motorbike crash and car bomb, as Monday's episode picks up one year after the double tragedy.

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
