Hollyoaks star Stephanie Davis – AKA Sinead O'Connor – has unveiled a brand new tattoo on Instagram, revealing in a new photo that she's had an old design covered up.

Stephanie shared the "meaningful" cover-up with fans on Instagram and thanked the artist for the design, which appears to be inspired by her past struggle with alcohol.

"Fresh meaningful ink and cover up," she wrote alongside the new artwork showing a woman crying into a glass of wine and some script.

"With every drop I drank my tears refilled the glass," the tattoo reads. "Staring into the abyss I died and rose again."

Stephanie, who returned to Hollyoaks after a three-year break last year, has often spoken candidly about her relationship with alcohol and how it's affected her mental health.

Speaking earlier this year, Stephanie admitted that she turned to alcohol to help her cope with PTSD, and at one time was drinking "probably three bottles of wine in the morning".

"I got told I had trauma and PTSD when I got to rehab," she said. "I was having panic attacks and anxiety. I was having night terrors. I was using it to go to sleep."

Fortunately, the 'Oaks star is now in recovery and having an "amazing" time with her son Caben-Albi, who was born in 2017.

Opening up about being a single mum recently, Stephanie said: "Yes of course it's hard sometimes, but worth every second. You just get on with it. It's only been me and him from the beginning so we know no different, we have the most amazing bond because of it."

Hollyoaks airs Mondays through Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm.
