Hollyoaks fans reckon they've debunked the Channel 4 soap's latest update on police officer George Kiss, after a recent episode saw his partner John Paul McQueen get told that he was killed in the line of duty.

In Tuesday night's outing (April 20), John Paul (James Sutton) and George (Callum Kerr) rowed over the former's whereabouts the night before. Audiences knew that John Paul had spent a drunken night with Ste, but in an attempt to avoid an argument, he'd told George that he'd stopped overnight at a hotel.

An increasingly suspicious George wound up ringing the hotel to see whether John Paul's story checked out though, and was left furious and stormed out when he found out that it had actually been closed since October.

Later, John Paul went to find George when he was approached by his boyfriend's colleague PC Smith, who informed him that George had lost his life while responding to a violent incident.

Eagle-eyed viewers suspect that George may have faked his death though, as the show's spring trailer – which was released in March – features a scene where John Paul excitedly announces that he's engaged to a worried-looking Sally.

"[I'm] pretty sure it's another one of George's horrible mind games. I think also it showed in the spring trailer that JP and George are going to get engaged, and that hasn’t happened. I bet it happens right after George turns out not to be dead," one viewer wrote on Twitter.

"I'm on to you, PC Kiss!" another tweeted.
