Yahoo News Hollyoaks viewers 'devastated' over death twist

Hollyoaks has stunned fans with the death of one of the soap's beloved characters on Tuesday.

Jesse Donovan (Luke Jerdy) was last seen drunkenly collapsing in the middle of the village on Monday, when he gave up his wait to confess to Sylver about Grace's involvement in Mercedes' shooting.
The latest E4 episode saw Martine and Mitchell Deveraux (Kéllé Bryan and Imran Adams) rushing to the unconscious Jesse's aid to perform CPR, while also calling for an ambulance.

It wasn't long before Jesse's bride Courtney (Amy Conachan) realised he hadn't come home the night before. Grace (Tamara Wall) also ventured into the village, where she was horrified to see medics giving her brother CPR.
By the end of the episode, Grace had the solemn responsibility of telling her other brother Liam (Jude Monk McGowan), as well as Leela (Kirsty-Leigh Porter) and Courtney that Jesse was dead.
His devastating demise struck a chord with many viewers who had hoped Jesse and Courtney would get a happy ending:

Prior to Tuesday's shocking episode, Luke Jerdy accurately predicted that viewers would be absolutely gobsmacked by his character's demise.
"I think they'll be shocked, because Jesse's death came out of nowhere and he's not a big drinker, really," he pointed out. "After getting together with Courtney and adopting Iona, it's been nights in front of the TV.
"It's not like it's been coming for a while. I think it'll be a shock that it ends that way for Jesse. He's a fun, loveable character so it'll be sad."
Hollyoaks airs Mondays through Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm.
