Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

A bombshell twist in the McQueens blackmail plot has Hollyoaks viewers coming up with some very interesting theories.

It was revealed in Wednesday's (October 21) first-look 25th anniversary episode on E4 that infamous serial killer Silas Blissett (Jeff Rawle) is the one behind the Seven Deadly Sins blackmail demands against his longtime nemesis Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) and her family.

But is it quite that simple? An intriguing scene during the anniversary instalment featured Silas on the phone with someone else who is apparently in on the plotting.

Viewers are starting to come up with some theories on what could be going on with the return on the infamous serial killer.

"I told you this game was a pathetic charade," Silas angrily insisted. "Well, whatever happens next, remember they brought it on themselves!"

So, who is Silas working with to blackmail the McQueens? And who is actually in control? — Silas certainly seemed less gleefully evil than he has in the past.

"I bet the other one is Cleo," one guessed, referencing Nadine Mulkerrin's absent McQueen.

Another predicted Mercedes' young son (and Silas's great-grandson) might be holding a grudge, tweeting: "Bet Silas has been keeping in touch with Bobby on the sly."

"Still think PC Kiss is in it too," another guessed, while one fan agreed: "Yeah I'm in agreement with you all. It's Silas AND George. Don't know how or why.. but it is."

Partner-in-crime aside, lots of viewers were absolutely stunned to see Silas back in the Oaks:

Teasing the next steps in Silas's plan, Rawle has warned that the murder is anxious to resolve some "unfinished business" with his old nemesis Mercedes.

"She is 'The Queen of the McQueens'. The most elusive piece on his chessboard. Mercedes' son, Bobby is Silas’s great- grandson," he pointed out. "It has long been a cause of dark disquiet with Silas. The time has come to put things right."
