An award-winning Hollywood director visited a popular museum in Edinburgh while taking a break from filming.

Guillermo del Toro is in Edinburgh filming Frankenstein and has been spotted enjoying the culture.

On Saturday, he shared he had taken a trip to the Surgeon’s Hall Museum - an appropriate visit for the director of the grisly science fiction tale.

Posting a snap of himself standing in front of skeletons, he admitted it was the second time he had visited the popular museum.

Earlier in the week, the big Hollywood director was seen in the local bookshop, Golden Hare on St Stephen’s Street. He praised the collection of books, as well as the staff.

Edinburgh's Old Town has been taken over by a film set and crew as filming for the upcoming film Frankenstein is well underway. The gothic horror by Mary Shelley has seen several adaptations and Guillermo del Toro's is expected to be a big hit with an A-star cast including Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Christoph Walz and Oscar Issac.

An IMDP description of the horror movie reads: "Dr. Pretorius tracks down Frankenstein's monster, who is believed to have died in a fire forty years before, in order to continue the experiments of Dr. Victor Frankenstein."
