Home and Away filming postponed due to Sydney lockdown

·2-min read

Home and Away has postponed scheduled filming due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions that have been put in place in Sydney.

The soap has been on a scheduled two-week production break over the past fortnight, but it has now been confirmed that this break will be extended as a result of the ongoing restrictions in Sydney, where the show is filmed.

Actor Shane Withington, who plays John Palmer, revealed over the weekend that the cast and crew would not be returning to set when originally planned, as he tweeted: "It really looks like they want people to stay at home unless their work is essential."

Greater Sydney is under stricter lockdown restrictions until July 30, with residents told not to leave their homes unless for an essential reason, such as food shopping or medical care. Non-essential retail, hospitality and entertainment businesses have all been told to close.

The soap had a two-month break from filming last spring when the Covid-19 pandemic first hit, with health and safety precautions such as social distancing and temperature checks put into place when the cast and crew returned.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia). Selected classic episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
