Home and Away newcomer Jacqui Purvis on Cash's sister Felicity

Home and Away spoilers follow for UK viewers.

Home and Away introduces a new character on UK screens next week as Cash Newman's sister Felicity makes her first appearance in Summer Bay.

As local cop Cash (Nicholas Cartwright) enjoys a date with Jasmine Delaney, he has to rush off suddenly following calls and texts from his sibling.

Although Jasmine (Sam Frost) fears that Felicity could be a love rival, all becomes clear when an apologetic Cash later explains about his troublesome sister, who has managed to get them both evicted from the house they currently share.

Here, Jacqui Purvis – who plays Felicity – reveals more about what to expect from her character.

How have your first few months of filming been?

"My first few months have been incredible. I've had so much fun working with the amazing cast and crew. I've already learnt so much so quickly. It's like boot camp – super fast-paced, which I'm actually learning to love. It's a blast."

What can we expect from Felicity?

"Felicity is a firecracker. She has non-stop energy, an abundance of confidence and no filter – which can, at times, get her into a lot of trouble.

"However, under all that is a vulnerable, sensitive, intelligent woman, who has had a very hard upbringing. That's the joy of playing her – getting to explore all those wonderful behaviours and layers."

What is Felicity's relationship with her brother Cash like?

"It's complicated. Cash is so important to Felicity and she relies on him heavily. Whenever she messes up, she turns to Cash to fix it, and he almost always does.

"They love each other so much and have developed such a strong and bulletproof bond, but that doesn't stop them from having the feisty sibling fight once in a while.

"They can say anything to each other, no matter how harsh, and they will always come together, sit down, and enjoy a beer at the end of the day. They forgive and forget. I want people to watch these two and say: 'That's just like me and my brother or sister!'"

What can you tell us about your first scenes?

"Felicity gets into trouble pretty quickly and needs Cash's help. Cash is very different to Flick. He is smart but very square and sensible.

"Flick likes to be a bit naughty and questionable, so they really couldn't be more opposite and this can cause them to butt heads. So in their first scenes together, Cash is a little cautious, to say the least."

Does Felicity have her eye on anyone in the Bay?

"She sure does, but you'll have to stay tuned. At the beginning, Felicity is there in Summer Bay for her brother, but what draws her in closer, apart from family, is definitely a certain someone. So the Bay might have to get used to seeing Flick around."

What has it been like to work with Nicholas, who plays Cash?

"Working with Nic has been a dream. He is so open and giving, always making me laugh on set. We're such good friends in real life that it makes working with him so easy.

"I do a lot of work on our scenes as they are usually pretty weighted, either quite vulnerable and sad, or high energy. Nic does the same and he cares a lot, so I'm always so excited to work with him to see what we both bring to the table."

Is there anyone in the cast that you haven't worked with so far and would like to team up with for a future storyline?

"There are so many brilliant people in this cast, I want to work with them all. But two stand-outs that I haven't been able to work with yet are Courtney Miller (Bella) and James Stewart (Justin). They are both such incredible actors.

"Courtney is so open as an actor. She shows such strength and stillness in her work. I think she is so talented, I'd love to work with her and I also think Flick and Bella would get along so well.

"And James is just effortlessly captivating, I would love to work with him just so I could learn from him. It would be like a masterclass in acting."

In Felicity's first episode, we see her do a Coyote Ugly-style dance at a bar. What was that like to film?

"That was the most fun I've had in a long time. I was previously a dancer and have always loved it, so getting to dance on the show was a huge bonus.

"I even got to work with the amazing dancer and choreographer Leah Howard, who taught me the routine that you see in the episode. We had heaps of fun creating it.

"Then getting to perform it on the day, with a crowded bar, all these extras watching, the lights, the music, it was just so much fun. I definitely felt who Flick was in that moment."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK), with first look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
