Home and Away spoilers follow for UK viewers.
Home and Away newcomer Rick Donald has hinted there'll be big consequences over Kieran's drinking problems.
For UK audiences, Martha's long-lost son is set to make his debut appearance next week, bringing with him a history of violence and substance abuse.
And while the Stewarts will be led to believe that, after a period in rehab, Kieran is now on the road to recovery, it'll soon become apparent that he's still struggling with his alcoholism.
Ahead of his character's arrival, Donald said: "Kieran is a troubled guy dealing with both addiction problems and mental illness issues. He's a kind person deep down but has lost his way after a troubled childhood.
On how his addiction will impact his relationship with Martha, he said: "His drinking pushes everyone away and creates a bigger problem of lying to his mother... It's not going to help patch things up if he's lying from the start."
"It's a tough relationship with a lot of unsaid issues keeping them from the healing they both desperately need," he added.
Last month, the actor also revealed that Kieran's arrival at Summer Bay will lead to tensions with Alf Stewart, and Donald completely understands why the Australian soap legend is so protective of Martha.
"I think Alf's instincts are pretty spot on 100 percent of the time!"
Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
